Union Family,
You are welcome to share this with the field.
Nearly 8700 APWU represented employees applied for retirement under the MOU RE: One-time Retirement Incentive.
I can now report that no employee will be denied the opportunity to retire based on any of the caps. (See MOU for the listing of the “capped” groups)
Some employees are being contacted and being told that they are not entitled to the incentive based on the date they chose for retirement. In all cases, employees who submitted their retirement application between January 13, 2025 and March 7, 2025, must have chosen April 30, 2025, as their retirement date. Only employees who had submitted retirement paperwork prior to January 13, 2025, and had chosen a retirement earlier than April 30, 2025, were allowed to leave prior to April 30, 2025 and get the incentive. That was clarified in question #15 of the Questions and Answers. I understand that those employees were offered the option to change their retirement date to April 30, 2025.
I am still being told that employees will receive written notice of their acceptance/approval for the retirement. I have not been informed when those will be going out.
Employees who sent a request to cancel their retirement prior to the March 7, 2025, should receive notice that their retirement was cancelled and their retirement packet returned to them. It has taken some time to process those and get the packets returned. If you are aware of someone who canceled and has not heard back, please have the local president reach out to me with the name and EIN of the employee, so I can check on their cancelation.
Thank-you,
